The short answer

Microsoft’s July 1, 2026 commercial update raised Business Basic with Teams from $6 to $7 and Business Standard with Teams from $12.50 to $14 per user/month on the annual pricing basis. Business Premium with Teams stayed at $22. Existing customers move to the updated price at their next renewal after July 1. Match your plan, seller, term and seat count before treating a higher invoice as an error.

Separate a rate increase from a different purchase.

Put the old invoice, new invoice and renewal notice together. Record the full product name, billed quantity, service dates, tax, billing interval, currency and seller. Compare the same term and product; Personal and Family subscriptions are outside this guide.

A higher total can come from more seats, an added service, an expired offer or a different bundle. A plan named “with Copilot” is not the same SKU as the base business plan. Microsoft’s current featured comparison includes Copilot bundles; use the base-plan comparison when that is what your invoice names.

The table summarizes Microsoft’s published July 2026 commercial change in US dollars per user/month, using annual pricing. It is not a personalized quote. Current base-plan prices with Teams were cross-checked on October 23. Monthly commitments, reseller offers, tax, promotions and other markets can differ.

Use the renewal date, not just the payment date.

Microsoft says new commercial pricing applies to new and renewing customers from July 1, 2026. Existing customers, including those on multi-year agreements, keep their current price until the next renewal after that date. Annual and monthly billing plans are affected at renewal.

An annual commitment billed monthly is still an annual commitment. Turning off recurring billing prevents the next renewal; it does not necessarily erase the remaining monthly payments in the current term. If a rate changed before the applicable renewal, ask the seller to reconcile the invoice with the agreement.

Calculate the increase before choosing a remedy.

For the same product and number of licenses, multiply the new per-user rate minus the old per-user rate by the billed license count. Compare before tax and for the same service period.

Illustrative example: 20 Business Standard licenses with Teams, moving from $12.50 to $14, add $30 per month: 20 × $1.50. Over 12 months that is $360, assuming the rate and quantity stay unchanged. This is budget arithmetic, not a customer result or money Huck has saved.

If the actual difference is larger, reconcile seat changes, add-ons, discounts and service dates separately. A valid published increase and an unrelated billing error can appear on the same invoice.

Lower the right cost without breaking business access.

Have your IT owner identify licenses the business can safely release and whether a different plan preserves the apps, security and storage people need. Unassigning a license and reducing the purchased quantity are different steps; removing a user alone does not prove the next invoice will fall.

For Microsoft Customer Agreement subscriptions, Microsoft limits immediate license removal to specified seven-day purchase or renewal windows, including recently added licenses. Outside the window, check the effective change date shown in the subscription. License removal requires recurring billing to be on. Keep the confirmed quantity and effective date.

Microsoft Online Subscription Agreement accounts use their own billing controls. Prepaid subscriptions, Microsoft-representative purchases and reseller purchases have different routes. Ask the actual seller to confirm the available reduction, switch or renewal change in writing rather than assuming a universal seven-day remedy.

Microsoft: buy or remove business licenses ↗

Check the account-specific cancellation option.

For an eligible Microsoft Customer Agreement purchase, Microsoft describes a seven-day cancellation window after start or renewal for prorated credit or refund. Purchases through a seller-led proposal have separate treatment; contact that seller. Other agreement types have different policies.

Before making cancellation effective, preserve business email and files and plan replacement access. Microsoft warns that users lose access when cancellation takes effect, and explicit subscription deletion can immediately delete SharePoint and OneDrive content. Do not delete the subscription merely to test whether billing stops.

Huck finds the charge and follows up on the approved fix.

Huck finds the invoice and renewal notice in Gmail, puts a dollar figure on the difference, and prepares the billing question or supported change for your approval. Huck pursues the approved cancellation, downgrade or credit request and checks the later bill for the actual result.

Your billing administrator and IT owner decide which licenses, security and data your business needs, complete required sign-in and control tenant access. This is not a promise that Huck can inspect Microsoft 365 usage, migrate mailboxes or change tenant security. A saving counts only when later billing evidence shows it.

A few things
before you act.

Did every Microsoft 365 Business plan increase in July 2026?

No. Microsoft’s commercial update increased Business Basic and Standard; Business Premium showed no increase in that update. Match the exact Teams/no-Teams SKU and distinguish a Copilot bundle from the base plan.

Does paying monthly mean I can leave after one month?

Not necessarily. A monthly payment schedule can belong to an annual commitment. Check the subscription term and renewal date before assuming the remaining payments stop.

Will removing a user immediately lower my bill?

Not by itself. Unassigning access and reducing purchased licenses are separate steps. The agreement, change window, seller and confirmed effective date determine the billing effect.

Does a price increase guarantee a refund?

No. A published change can be valid at renewal. Ask the seller to review a documented mismatch; eligibility and any credit or refund decision depend on the agreement and purchase.
