Cancel 8x8.
Port your numbers out first.

8x8 contracts renew for 12 months on their own, and leaving early costs every month left on the term. Huck finds your 8x8 invoices in Gmail, tells you what you pay and the dates you have to act by, and sends the notice when you say yes.

The short answer

To cancel 8x8, an admin logs in to the 8x8 Support Portal, hovers over Billing and selects Cancel Services, or asks Otto, the 8x8 chatbot, to start a cancellation request. 8x8 needs at least 30 days’ notice, contracts renew automatically for 12 months unless you send written non-renewal notice to claims@8x8.com at least 30 days before the term ends, and cancelling mid-term costs a buyout of the months remaining times your monthly service charges. Port out any numbers you want to keep before you submit the request, because on the cancel date your assigned numbers ring busy. 8x8 does not prorate the last month, and it refunds prepaid amounts only in narrow cases, such as ending the agreement within 30 days of signing up.

Cancel through a case, at least 30 days out.

8x8 cancels through a cancellation case, not a button that ends service on the spot. You pick the services and a cancel date at least 30 days out, and 8x8’s Cancellation team confirms the date and any buyout by email. 8x8 says the Cancellation team works only through the case by email, so a live chat or phone agent is not the same as a submitted request.

  1. Port out any numbers you want to keep. Start the port with your new provider and let it finish before you submit the cancellation request.
  2. Decide what to cancel and when. List the services or extensions and a cancel date at least 30 days away. For a partial cancellation, unassign the licenses you are cancelling first.
  3. Open Cancel Services. Log in to the 8x8 Support Portal, hover over Billing and select Cancel Services. If you don’t see it, tell Otto, the chatbot, you want to start a cancellation, or call +1 (866) 879-8647 and press 1, then 4.
  4. Fill in the cancellation form. 8x8 may ask you to get in touch to finish the details. A cancellation expert emails to verify your security passphrase, the services and any buyout.
  5. Get the confirmation email. It states the date your services cancel, any contract buyout and what happens after. Keep it with your records.
  6. On 8x8 Express? Log in at express.8x8.com, select Account information, then Cancel account, pick a reason and enter your admin password. The account cancels on the next billing date, and this can’t be undone.

Contracts renew for 12 months unless you send notice.

8x8 does not offer month-to-month subscriptions. Your first order sets the initial term, and 8x8’s Service Terms make it 36 months if the order doesn’t say. At the end of any term the agreement renews for 12 months, unless your order says otherwise, unless you give written notice of non-renewal at least 30 days before the term ends.

Send the notice to claims@8x8.com, the address the agreement names, and copy globalcancellations@8x8.com so the Cancellation team acts on it. Email notice takes effect the first business day after you send it, so leave a margin. Then open a Contract / Term Inquiry case with your Account ID, term end date and services. Cutting licenses or downgrading at renewal needs 45 days’ notice, and missing that window locks in your current quantity for the full renewal term.

Our 8x8 account [company name, Account ID] has a term ending [date]. Please treat this as our written notice of non-renewal under section 11 of the 8x8 UCaaS/CCaaS Service Terms. We want all services to end on [date], and we are porting [phone numbers] to a new provider before then. Please confirm the cancellation date and any final charges by email.

Leaving mid-term costs the rest of the term.

Your Subscription Commitment covers the whole term, so cancelling before the contract end date leaves a Contract Buyout charge. 8x8 calculates it as the months remaining on the contract times your monthly service charges, including taxes. Usage such as calls and SMS is not part of it. 8x8’s own example: 8 months left at $2,000 a month is a $16,000 buyout.

The buyout lands on the invoice for the month after your services cancel. Billing Support can’t quote it. Open a Contract / Term Inquiry case through chatBOT / My Support Portal, and the Cancellation team confirms the figure. The cheapest exit is a cancel date that lines up with the end of your term.

Port numbers out with the new provider first.

Your new provider submits the port request, and 8x8 won’t deal with them directly. The provider usually needs the company name, customer name and billing address from your 8x8 bill, which is in My 8x8 under Billing, then Billing Statements. For US numbers, ask 8x8 by chat for the port out PIN. If you don’t know what is registered to your numbers, raise a porting queries case for a Customer Service Record, which takes 7 business days for 1 to 199 numbers in one country.

Porting does not cancel your account or stop billing. Once the port is done, remove the numbers in Admin Console and submit the cancellation request. 8x8’s terms allow a reasonable administrative fee for each port out where the law permits.

On the cancel date, service stops and numbers ring busy.

When services cancel, they stop working and any assigned phone numbers ring busy. 8x8 gives a 30-day grace period in which you can restore service by replying to the cancellation emails, then sends a final email saying the account will no longer be accessible after a set date.

8x8’s terms say the service is not meant for data backup or storage, and that 8x8 destroys customer personal data within 60 days after you close the account, unless a law requires it to keep some. Export call recordings, voicemails and reports you need before the cancel date. Flex Plan phones have to go back under an RMA before you cancel.

8x8 refunds rarely, and only on request.

Under 8x8’s Service Terms, payments are non-refundable unless the agreement says otherwise. Prepaid unused amounts come back only in narrow cases: you end the agreement within 30 days of the Effective Date because the service doesn’t meet your needs, or you end it because 8x8 materially breached and didn’t cure. In the 30-day case, returned equipment is refunded less a $25 restocking fee per item. 8x8 also bills the full month you cancel in, with no proration.

Refunds and credits are not automatic. Raise a dispute against the invoice in the 8x8 Billing Portal, or open a billing case if it isn’t about one invoice. Card and ACH refunds go back only to a valid payment method, up to 6 months back, and arrive 3 to 5 business days after confirmation. Invoice customers get a credit memo. The terms give 30 days from the charge to dispute an overbilled amount by email to claims@8x8.com.

Our 8x8 account [company name, Account ID] was charged [amount] on invoice [number] dated [date]. We believe this was billed in error because [reason, such as charges after our confirmed cancel date of [date]]. Please treat this as a dispute of that amount and refund it to the payment method on file, or confirm the credit, by email.

Huck catches the notice dates before the term rolls over.

Huck finds 8x8 invoices and renewal emails in your Gmail and texts you what you pay each month and the dates that matter: 45 days before renewal to cut licenses, 30 days to stop the renewal.

When you say yes, Huck sends the non-renewal notice to claims@8x8.com and globalcancellations@8x8.com from your Gmail, fills in Cancel Services in the 8x8 portal, answers the Cancellation team’s emails, sends any refund or dispute request, then checks the next invoice for the buyout and the final month. You handle the 8x8 sign-in and the number port with your new provider. 8x8 decides any refund.
