Cancel Paychex Flex.
Give notice before the next invoice.

Paychex Flex has no cancel button, and its terms run on written notice, so payroll keeps billing until the notice period ends. Huck finds your Paychex invoices in Gmail, tells you what you pay and what notice your agreement needs, and sends the notice when you say yes.

The short answer

Paychex publishes no online cancel steps. Its own advice is to review your service agreement and speak with a Paychex representative, and its posted service terms let either side end the agreement on 30 days’ prior written notice. Ending without that notice can add fees for the full notice period, and some bundles and promotions carry a one-year or 12-month term with early termination fees. Ending your online account ends your access to everything stored in it, so download payroll and tax records first. Paychex says former clients’ W-2s are printed and shipped, and that switching at quarter-end or year-end is simpler because of tax filing deadlines.

Send written notice through your Paychex representative.

Paychex does not publish a cancel button or online cancel steps for Paychex Flex. Its own guidance says to review the terms of your current service, then contact Paychex and speak with a representative, who gives the exact steps to end payroll service.

Paychex’s annual report for fiscal 2026 says its client agreements generally have no set contract period and either side can end them with 30 days’ notice. Its posted Service Agreement terms ask for that notice in writing.

  1. Find your signed agreement. Check the Service Agreement or Signature Packet for the notice period, any Initial Term and the services you bought.
  2. Pick an end date. Paychex says switching at quarter-end or year-end is simpler because of tax filing deadlines. Count back at least 30 days.
  3. Download your records. Save payroll registers, tax filings and employee records from Paychex Flex before access ends.
  4. Send written notice. Contact your Paychex representative, or use Paychex Flex support at 877-729-2439 or the live chat inside Paychex Flex. Put the notice in writing and include the last payroll you want Paychex to run.
  5. Get the end date confirmed. Ask Paychex to confirm in writing the termination date, any final fees, and how final tax filings and W-2s will be handled.

Ending payroll does not always end every Paychex service. Paychex’s retirement agreement says terminating payroll does not terminate that agreement, so close each service you no longer want.

30 days’ written notice, and early fees on some contracts.

Paychex’s posted Service Agreement general terms, Rev. 5/2026, say either party may terminate on 30 days’ prior written notice. Ending without that notice may add fees for the full notice period, and termination does not cancel what you already owe.

For some services, such as HR Solutions and Managed Services, the same terms say a client may agree to an Initial Term of at least 12 months. Leaving during it means early termination fees equal to average monthly fees times the months left in the term or six months, whichever is less.

Paychex’s current payroll promotion, which runs through October 31, 2026 unless extended, requires a one-year service agreement. If you end it within the year, Paychex can recover the value of the free months on top of any other early termination recovery.

Your signed agreement governs. The terms quoted here are the general terms Paychex posts publicly, which may differ from yours.

PEO clients follow the notice on their Signature Packet.

The Paychex HR PEO Terms of Service, version effective October 7, 2026, let you end PEO service for convenience at the end of any term by giving the written notice shown on your Signature Packet. A transition fee applies unless you give that notice and meet your obligations through the notice period. Ending before the term is up adds an early termination fee per employee per remaining day.

Paychex still reports federal employment taxes for wages it issued during the year. If you are not active on the PEO through December 31, Paychex may charge a W-2 fee based on how many W-2s it issues for that year.

Access to Paychex Flex ends, and the records are yours to keep.

Paychex’s posted Service Agreement terms say the client is solely responsible for recordkeeping and for downloading and keeping its documents and data, and that ending or suspending the online account ends access to anything in it.

Employees lose online access too. Paychex’s W-2 help page says employees of a former employer can get W-2s online when that employer still has an active Paychex Flex account. For a business that is no longer a client, Paychex says W-2s are printed and shipped to the business or straight to employees.

Paychex does not publish how it handles the final quarter’s payroll tax returns for a non-PEO client that leaves mid-year. Ask your representative to confirm it in writing.

Paychex publishes no payroll refund rule.

We found no Paychex page that sets a refund policy for payroll fees. Its posted terms say termination does not relieve you of your payment obligations, and fees can run for the full notice period if you give less than 30 days.

If you are billed after your confirmed end date, or for a payroll Paychex did not run, ask Paychex in writing to review the charge. Paychex decides any credit.

Huck times the notice and checks the last invoice.

Huck finds Paychex invoices in your Gmail and texts you what payroll costs each month, when your agreement started and when 30 days’ notice has to go out to stop billing at the end date you pick.

When you say yes, Huck sends the written notice to your Paychex representative from your Gmail, asks for a written end date and final fee figure, then checks the next invoice. You handle the Paychex Flex sign-in and downloading your records. Paychex decides any credit or refund.
