Cancel Shopify.
Check what keeps billing.

A store subscription, an app and a domain can have separate charges. Review all three before the store owner confirms cancellation.

The short answer

For an eligible store, the owner uses Shopify admin → Settings → Plan → Cancel plan and completes the deactivation prompts. Review pending charges, apps, domains and customer obligations first. Shopify Plus uses Plus Support. Cancellation does not automatically stop outside app charges or domain renewals.

Make sure you mean the store subscription.

This guide covers a merchant canceling the Shopify store plan. It does not cover a shopper canceling a recurring product order or a merchant removing one app. Those tasks have different billing owners.

Check whether a lower plan or a temporary pause meets the business need. Shopify’s Pause and Build option still has a fee. If the store uses Shopify Plus, contact Plus Support for the applicable process.

Resolve the work the store still supports.

Review outstanding orders, gift cards, disputes and pending payouts. Export the business records you need and arrange access to customer and transaction information before the store closes. Shopify says chargebacks can still arise after deactivation.

Review domain ownership and renewal settings. A store cancellation does not cancel domain renewals. Arrange any necessary domain transfer or website replacement before the store’s access changes.

Huck can find subscription charges in your email and follow up on approved billing requests. The store owner should make the closure decision, preserve business data and complete the owner-only deactivation and security checks.

Use the owner’s Plan settings and review the final charges.

Shopify says the store owner must complete deactivation. Its support team cannot deactivate the store for you.

  1. Open the plan. In Shopify admin, go to Settings → Plan and select Cancel plan, or Cancel trial during a trial.
  2. Review the alternatives and charges. Check the presented downgrade or pause options, domain settings and pending charges.
  3. Read the app consequence. If closing is still the decision, follow the Cancel my plan and uninstall all apps option and its confirmation prompts.
  4. Finish as the owner. Complete the reason, password and any security checks. Save the confirmation and the effective close date.

Closing the store does not erase every charge.

Shopify says pending app usage, transaction and shipping-label charges can be billed when you cancel. Apps are uninstalled, but services billed outside Shopify need a separate review. Other stores on the same business account may also keep billing.

Reconcile the final invoice against the work already incurred and the cancellation date. Shopify’s guide states that subscription plans are non-refundable. Do not treat closing the store as a refund request or promise a reversal of every final charge.

Please review the final billing for [store URL] after cancellation on [date]. Invoice [number] includes [charge and amount]. Please identify its billing period, whether it is a pending usage charge or another subscription, and which provider handles any remaining cancellation.

Keep a separate record for the store, apps and domain.

Record each billing provider, the requested change, confirmation and next expected bill. Check external app subscriptions and domain renewal settings separately after the store plan is canceled.

A confirmation establishes the plan change. The next billing record establishes whether the expected charge stopped. Keep disputed amounts and approved credits visible until they are resolved.

We find the charge.

Huck finds renewals, price increases, duplicate payments and refunds owed in your Gmail, with a dollar figure on each finding.

02

You decide.

Review the proposed change. Cancellations, downgrades and refund requests need your yes each time.

03

We do the chasing.

Huck cancels, requests the refund or works the vendor’s chat, then follows up until the request is settled. Huck checks your bill for the lower charge, credit or refund and texts you the result.

A few things
before you act.

Can Shopify support close the store for me?

Shopify says the owner must complete deactivation. Plus merchants should use Plus Support for their process.

Does canceling Shopify stop the domain renewal?

No. Shopify says domain renewals are separate. Review the renewal settings with the provider that bills for the domain.

Will all app charges stop?

Shopify uninstalls apps during store cancellation and bills pending charges. Apps billed outside Shopify need separate cancellation review.
