Cancel online in Contracts & subscriptions.

You don’t have to call. IONOS’s help center gives a phone line, +1 484 424 7392, that it also uses to make retention offers, but the same cancellation works in your IONOS account, and IONOS emails a confirmation with the cancellation date to the address on file.

1. Back up first. Download your invoices, export website and email data, and if you use many email addresses, list every mailbox and forwarding. Switch off Domain Guard if it is on.
2. Open the contract. Log in, select Menu, then My account, then the Contracts & subscriptions tile, and click the contract name in the Service column.
3. Select Cancel contract. On the Details tab select Cancel contract, then Select in the Cancel this entire contract tile.
4. Give a reason and pick the details. Choose a reason and select Next. Depending on the domains and features in the contract, you may choose a cancellation date or type, and IONOS shows the cancellation date.
5. Confirm. Select Next or Continue cancellation, tick the box confirming you have backed up your data, and select Make a note of cancellation now. Keep the confirmation email.

Cancelling many contracts at once? IONOS asks you to email cancellation@ionos.com with your customer numbers, contract numbers, domain names, any add-on descriptions and the cancellation date you want. It confirms to the email address in your account.

Dropping one add-on leaves the contract billing.

To cancel a single add-on, such as an extra email product, open it in Contracts & subscriptions and select Cancel additional item on the Renews on line. Pick a cancellation date if asked, give a reason, review the summary, select Continue cancellation, tick the box and select Cancel additional items now.

IONOS’s own warning on that screen is that the contract remains active and may incur further charges. If you want to stop paying IONOS altogether, cancel the entire contract instead.

Transfer the domain out, then cancel the contract.

To keep a domain, get its authorization code: in the Domains section open Renewal & Transfer, select the domain and select Show Authorization Code, then give the code to the new provider. IONOS says the code can take several minutes to appear.

Transferring a domain away is not the same as cancelling, so the IONOS contract keeps running and may keep billing. Cancel the entire contract after the transfer. It ends at the end of the current contract term, which IONOS shows for each contract, and IONOS says the minimum term still applies when you leave.

To let a domain lapse instead, turn off automatic renewal in your IONOS account up to 72 hours before the term ends. You can switch it back on up to 48 hours before the end. After the domain is deleted you have 10 days to restore it with its applications and inboxes, then 20 more days to reactivate it and reconnect everything yourself, after which anyone can register it.

If you end a contract without saying what should happen to its domains, IONOS cancels the registrations when the contract ends and any connected website or email stops working.

Leaving a minimum term early costs the rest of the term.

Under IONOS Inc.’s General Terms and Conditions, updated October 21, 2026, subscriptions start with a one month term and renew monthly unless the product has a longer term. Minimum Term Contract Packages bill for the whole initial term and then renew month to month. Extended Term Packages are paid up front, are non-refundable and renew for another term of the same length.

If you end a minimum term or extended term package before its term is up, you authorize IONOS to charge your card for the rest of the initial term, and you get no refund. Either side can end a subscription on thirty days’ notice, and you can also turn automatic renewal off in the control panel any time before the term expires. For terms of 12 months or longer, IONOS emails a renewal reminder 30 to 45 days before the cancellation deadline.

The terms accept cancellation through the control panel, by phone (subject to verification), or by written notice. An email notice counts only if it comes from the email address registered with IONOS and a copy goes by registered or certified mail to IONOS Inc., Two Logan Square, 100 N 18th St, Ste 400, Philadelphia, PA 19103, postmarked within five days.

At the end of the term, the data goes too.

When a subscription ends, IONOS’s terms say you lose access to the service and its data, including websites, email, databases, log files and server settings, may be permanently deleted. IONOS says it is not responsible for backing up your data.

Websites and mailboxes connected to a cancelled domain stop working when the domain’s term ends. If the cancelled contract was your last one, you can no longer sign in to the IONOS account, so download every invoice before the cancellation date.

Refunds come only through the money-back guarantee.

Where IONOS offers its 30-day money-back guarantee on a product, the claim must reach IONOS within 30 days of the initial order date, and the contract details show an End trial period now button. You can also claim through customer support. The refund covers certain setup fees and the first billing cycle’s monthly fee and goes back to the payment method on file.

The guarantee does not cover new domain packages, SSL certificates, additional domains or additional features, usage-based services such as some servers, professional services, spent third-party ad budgets, or search engine marketing setup fees. Switching packages ends your eligibility. Outside the guarantee, ending a prepaid or minimum term early is not refunded.
