How do I cancel
Thumbtack Pro?

Thumbtack charges your card automatically each time a matching customer contacts you, and there is no plan to cancel, only leads to turn off. Huck finds your Thumbtack receipts in Gmail, tells you what you pay and when the charges land, and makes the change when you say yes.

Connect Gmail to get started. You approve each money action.

The short answer

To cancel Thumbtack Pro, turn off your leads, because Thumbtack’s terms say “Your Budget is not a subscription” and you are charged per lead as customers contact you. For a break of up to 30 days, go to Services, open the three-dot menu and select Hide my business temporarily; to stop one service, open it and tap Pause under Job preferences. To leave for good, deactivate the account from Account settings, but Thumbtack says your account balance is not refundable and your reviews, profile and projects are deleted. Thumbtack says all sales and fees are final and non-refundable if you close your account. For a bad lead, you can request a refund within 45 days of the charge from Payments, View your balance and charges, and approved refunds go to your Thumbtack balance by default.

Stop paying by turning off leads, not a plan.

Thumbtack says you automatically pay for a lead when a customer reaches out to you directly and their job matches your job preferences. So there is no plan to cancel. You stop the charges by taking yourself out of search results, either for every service at once or one service at a time.

Hiding your business is the quickest way to stop all new leads. It lasts up to 30 days, you can still message current customers, and it can be repeated. Pausing job preferences stops leads for one service until you turn it back on, and Thumbtack remembers your settings.

  1. To pause everything, open Services. In the Thumbtack Pro app, tap Services in the main menu. On a computer, log in and go to your Services page.
  2. Tap the three-dot menu and select Hide my business temporarily. Pick an end date up to 30 days out, then select Hide business now in the app or Hide my business on the web.
  3. Know when it comes back. Your business goes live again at 8am your local time on the last day you picked. To stay hidden longer, go live and then immediately hide it again for up to another 30 days.
  4. To stop one service, open it in Services. Under Job preferences, tap Pause (on the web, Pause this service), give a reason, tap Continue, then Turn off.
  5. To drop a service you no longer offer, remove it. Open the service and tap Deactivate this service in the app, or Remove this service on the web, then confirm Remove. You can add it back later.

Staying on? Cap the weekly budget and turn off the extras.

Your weekly budget covers leads across all your services and resets on Monday. Thumbtack says the lead that uses up your budget is charged its full price, which can take you over by up to 40% of the budget or $40 plus 2% of it, whichever is less. Opportunities you quote on are charged only if the customer responds, and that cost sits outside your budget.

Thumbtack’s current pro help pages do not use the names Instant Match or direct leads. The leads charged automatically are those that match your job preferences, plus two extras you can switch off in Services: Smart matching, which sends leads outside your usual preferences, and Lead boosts, which sends extra leads at 25% off after you reach your budget.

  1. Open Services and tap Manage your budget. Job preferences must be on to see this option.
  2. Pick a recommended, current, unlimited or custom budget, then tap Save weekly budget. Avoid Set to unlimited if you want a weekly cap. After you hit your limit, Thumbtack lets you set a custom budget only one more time that week.
  3. Turn off the Smart matching toggle in Services. Thumbtack says it is on when the toggle is blue and off when it is gray. That returns you to exact match leads only.
  4. Turn off the Lead boosts toggle in Services. With lead boosts off, you stop showing up for new customers once you reach your weekly budget, until it resets.
  5. Turn off Opportunities notifications if you don’t want them. Do this in your notification settings. Opportunities cost nothing unless a customer replies to your quote.

There is no auto-pay switch. Stop the leads, then remove the card.

Thumbtack’s terms say it may automatically charge your stored card when customers contact or book you, and that you must keep at least one valid payment method on the account. Pros need a valid card on file to receive leads and show up in search results. Newer pros may be charged lead by lead; pros with enough purchase history may be charged periodically once fees hit a time period or dollar threshold.

You can’t delete your default card while job preferences are turned on. If the default card fails, the terms let Thumbtack charge any other card on the account, and fees you owe are still charged after your account is no longer active.

  1. Hide your business or pause job preferences first. Thumbtack points to these as the alternatives to deleting the default card.
  2. Open Payments. In the app, tap Profile, the gear icon, then Payments. On the web, go to your Payments page.
  3. Select the card and tap Delete card, then confirm. If you have more than one card, remove each one you don’t want charged, since Thumbtack can fall back to any card on the account.

Deactivating is the only way to delete a pro account.

Thumbtack calls deactivation permanent: your reviews, profile information, projects and account balance are deleted, and you stop receiving leads and charges. You can ask to reactivate later through Thumbtack’s reactivation form, but your profile information and past leads won’t come back. To remove one business profile instead, go to Account settings and select delete next to that profile.

A personal data deletion request also deletes the account, but Thumbtack says it can take up to 45 days to process, so deactivate as well if you want leads and charges to stop now.

  1. In the app, tap Profile, then the gear icon. On the web, click your profile photo and choose Settings.
  2. Tap Account Details and select Deactivate account. On the web, click Deactivate account in Account settings.
  3. Tell Thumbtack why you are leaving and tap Continue. Then confirm you want to deactivate and tap Deactivate account.

Hiding keeps your reviews. Deactivating deletes them.

While your business is hidden or job preferences are paused, your account stays active and your reviews, profile and settings stay put. New customers can’t find or contact you, though you still get Opportunities you aren’t charged for unless you quote and the customer responds.

Deactivating deletes the reviews you’ve written or received, your profile information, your projects and your Thumbtack account balance. Thumbtack’s terms say promotion credits are forfeited if the account is cancelled, and prepaid package credits can be used only while you have an active account in good standing.

Refunds are per lead, and they land on your Thumbtack balance.

Thumbtack refunds some leads automatically, such as a lead flagged by its Trust and Safety team, a Smart Match lead you decline as not a fit, or a lead boost you decline before you reply. For anything else you can request a refund within 45 days of the charge from Payments, View your balance and charges, or from the three-dot menu in your messages with that customer. Situations Thumbtack says will most likely qualify include a job that changed significantly, a date you had blocked that the customer can’t move, an invalid phone number and a duplicate lead. A customer not hiring you does not qualify, and all refunds are at Thumbtack’s sole discretion.

You usually hear back in 24 to 48 hours, or up to four days. Approved refunds go to your Thumbtack balance. To get one back on the original card, contact Thumbtack within 10 business days of approval; credit packages, courtesy credits and promotional balances can’t go back to a card. If you close your account, Thumbtack says all sales and fees are final and non-refundable, and its Terms of Use, last updated July 10, 2026, say the same apart from its Refund Policy.

Huck catches the lead charges and turns them off.

Huck reads Thumbtack charge receipts in your Gmail and texts you what you paid for leads, how often the charges land and which ones look like leads you should not have paid for, so you can act inside the 45-day refund window.

When you say yes, Huck hides your business, pauses job preferences, lowers the weekly budget or turns off Smart matching and lead boosts in your Thumbtack account, and you handle the sign-in. It can also draft a refund request for a bad lead from your Gmail for your yes, then checks the next receipts to confirm the charges stopped. Thumbtack decides any refund, and approved refunds go to your Thumbtack balance unless you ask for the card.
