Cancel Zendesk.
Give notice 30 days out.

Zendesk bills to the end of the cycle you’re in, refunds nothing for unused time and renews a term on its own without 30 days’ notice. Huck finds your Zendesk receipts in Gmail, tells you what you pay, how many agent seats that covers and when the term ends, and makes the change when you say yes.

The short answer

Only the Zendesk account owner can cancel: in Admin Center, go to Account, then Billing, then Subscription, click Manage, then Remove products or cancel account, and click Cancel account. Sales-assisted (managed) accounts can’t cancel online and go through Zendesk Sales or their account representative. The cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing cycle, and Zendesk does not refund subscription charges or unused agent seats. Zendesk’s Customer Agreement requires notice at least 30 days before the subscription term ends, or the term renews automatically. Zendesk says to let a trial expire rather than cancel it. Service data is permanently deleted starting 90 days after cancellation, so export what you need first.

The account owner cancels in Admin Center.

On a self-service plan, the account owner can cancel the whole account or single products from Billing. Billing admins can’t cancel products or accounts, and agents can’t cancel at all. A sales-assisted (managed) account can’t cancel online: contact Zendesk Sales or your account representative, and the cancellation is linked to your subscription term. Some self-service accounts also see a message on the Cancellations page telling them to contact Zendesk Customer Support.

  1. Open your subscription. In Admin Center, click Account in the sidebar, then select Billing, then Subscription.
  2. Start the cancellation. Click Manage, then Remove products or cancel account at the bottom of the Manage subscription page. On a legacy account, click Cancellations at the bottom of the Subscription page instead. If the Manage button is missing, you may need to settle pending payments first; Zendesk says to contact Zendesk Sales.
  3. Cancel the account. Click Cancel account. Zendesk shows when the cancellation takes effect. Click Cancel account again to confirm.
  4. Finish the survey. Select the reason you’re cancelling, then confirm. The account stays usable until the end of the current billing cycle.
  5. Only want to drop one product? On the same page, click Remove next to each product, then Continue, pick a reason and click Confirm cancellations. In a Zendesk Suite account you can’t cancel individual products, but Zendesk Customer Support can move you to a Support-only account. Removing Support or Suite may cancel the whole account, and Zendesk warns you first.

You can restore a cancelled product before the current billing cycle ends by contacting your account manager or Zendesk Customer Support.

Let a trial expire instead of cancelling it.

Zendesk’s Support trial article says to let the trial account expire, and that you can’t cancel a trial before it expires. Its cancellation article says that if you want to end a trial early, contact Zendesk Customer Support. If no payment method was added during the trial, the account is deleted 270 days after the trial ends.

Under Zendesk’s Free Trial Terms, data and settings entered during the trial are permanently lost unless you buy a subscription or export the data before the trial period ends.

Seat and plan cuts start at the next cycle.

The account owner or a billing admin can remove unused agent seats. Empty the seats first so you don’t lose tickets or other data. Sales-assisted or managed accounts may need their account representative to make the change.

Zendesk says you can only downgrade a plan upon renewal. Fewer seats, a lower plan or a new billing cycle shows as a pending subscription until the next billing cycle. Until then you keep paying the current rate, with no prorated refund for the unused time at the higher level.

  1. Downgrade agents you no longer need. If every seat is in use, downgrade some agents to end users first.
  2. Open Manage. In Admin Center, go to Account, then Billing, then Subscription, then Manage.
  3. Lower the Seats number. Enter the number of agent seats you need. The change applies from your next billing cycle.

The Zendesk Customer Agreement says you can’t downgrade a plan or cut agents during a subscription term. For the next term, it asks for 30 days’ written notice before the term ends to revops@zendesk.com, and for affected agents to be removed or deactivated before the new term starts.

Give notice 30 days before the term ends.

Zendesk’s Customer Agreement, effective August 1, 2025 for new customers and September 1, 2025 for existing ones, renews each subscription term automatically for an equivalent term, at Zendesk’s then-current rates, unless notice of non-renewal is given at least 30 days before it ends. The agreement says to send that notice by email to revops@zendesk.com. Zendesk’s help center says that for self-service customers, cancelling in Admin Center counts as notice, and all other customers must contact Zendesk Customer Support.

If you cancel before the end of the subscription term, the agreement says you still pay any unpaid amounts for the rest of the term. Charges are non-cancelable and non-refundable except where the agreement says otherwise.

Our Zendesk account [company name, subdomain] has a subscription term ending [date]. Please treat this as our notice that we will not renew, and cancel the account at the end of the current term. Please confirm the cancellation date and any final charges by email.

Cancelling locks you out, then deletes the data.

Once the cancellation takes effect you can’t sign in, and you lose access to tickets, user information, channels, business rules and settings. Ninety days after an account is cancelled, an automated process starts permanently deleting service data, and it can’t be reversed.

Within those 90 days the account owner can ask Zendesk to reactivate the account, and Zendesk bills for the time from cancellation to the current billing period. To pull tickets out after cancelling, ask Zendesk Customer Support for a temporary reactivation; data exports depend on your plan and must be enabled on the account.

If you only need a break, an account owner on monthly payments with less than $20,000 ARR can pause the account for up to three months instead, once every 12 months. Charges stop during the pause, but agents can’t work tickets and customers can’t submit new ones.

Zendesk doesn’t refund unused time.

Zendesk says it doesn’t offer refunds or credits for subscription charges, unused agent seats or time you don’t use the account. Its Customer Agreement allows a prorated refund of prepaid, unused charges in narrow cases, such as an update that materially reduces the service with no reasonable alternative, or when you end the agreement because Zendesk is in material breach and doesn’t fix it within 30 days.

A charge after you cancel usually means the billing cycle hasn’t ended yet. If charges continue, check Zendesk’s Remind Me page for another active account under your email. Payment and invoice disputes must reach Zendesk before the payment due date, or within 30 days of the invoice on immediate payment terms. If you bought through a reseller, any refund goes to the reseller first.

Our Zendesk account [company name, subdomain] was cancelled on [date], effective [date]. We were charged [amount] on [date], after that date. Please review this charge under the Zendesk Customer Agreement and confirm by email whether it will be reversed.

Huck counts the seats and catches the term date.

Huck finds Zendesk receipts and renewal notices in your Gmail and texts you what you pay, how many agent seats that covers and when the term ends, so unused seats come off before the next cycle and notice goes out more than 30 days before the term ends.

When you say yes, Huck lowers seats or cancels in Zendesk’s Admin Center, or sends the non-renewal notice or refund request to Zendesk from your Gmail, then checks the next bill. You handle the Zendesk sign-in and any data export. Zendesk decides any refund.

A few things
before you act.

How do I cancel my Zendesk subscription?

The account owner goes to Admin Center, then Account, then Billing, then Subscription, clicks Manage, then Remove products or cancel account, and clicks Cancel account. It takes effect at the end of the billing cycle. Sales-assisted accounts contact Zendesk Sales or their account representative.

How do I cancel my Zendesk account?

Only the account owner can, from the same Subscription page in Admin Center. Agents and billing admins can’t. Give notice at least 30 days before the term ends so it doesn’t renew.

How do I cancel a Zendesk free trial?

Zendesk says to let the trial expire. If you want it ended early, contact Zendesk Customer Support. Export anything you need first, because trial data is permanently lost when the trial ends.

How do I delete my Zendesk account?

Cancel it. Ninety days after cancellation, Zendesk starts permanently deleting the account’s service data. Until then the account owner can ask Zendesk to reactivate it, and Zendesk bills for the time since cancellation.

Can I get a refund after cancelling Zendesk?

Zendesk says no refunds or credits for subscription charges, unused agent seats or time you don’t use. The agreement allows prorated refunds only in narrow cases, and Zendesk decides.
