How do I pause or cancel
Google Local Services Ads?

Local Services Ads bill per valid lead through Google Ads, with no contract to end. Pausing the ad stops new leads and charges; cancelling the Google Ads account stops everything. Huck finds the charges in Gmail and tells you what each month cost.

The short answer

To pause Google Local Services Ads, sign in to Local Services Ads, open the menu, click Profile & Budget, click the blue text next to Ad schedule and set the ad to paused, then save. Google charges per valid lead, so a paused ad stops new leads and new charges; a free version of your listing may still show. To stop for good, there is no separate Local Services cancel button: billing runs through Google Ads, and cancelling the Google Ads account (Admin, Account settings, Account status, Cancel my account) stops all ads within 24 hours. You still pay costs already built up, and Google refunds any unused prepaid balance automatically, typically in 4 to 12 weeks.

Pause the ad in Profile & Budget.

Google’s Local Services Help says you can set your ad to “paused” to stop it from displaying, regardless of your schedule, and switch it back on to resume. Google also says to pause or edit Local Services campaigns in the Local Services Ads inbox rather than the main Google Ads interface.

  1. Sign in to Local Services Ads. Use the Google account that runs the ads.
  2. Click the menu at the top, then Profile & Budget. This is where the ad schedule and budget live.
  3. Click the blue text next to “Ad schedule”. It shows the current schedule type; the default is “All day”.
  4. Set the ad to paused and click Save. The ad stops showing until you switch it back on.
  5. Check the Billing menu in your leads inbox. It shows what each lead was charged.

Stop for good: cancel the Google Ads account.

Local Services Ads have no contract term or cancellation fee in Google’s help pages, and billing is managed by Google Ads. To stop every charge, an admin cancels the Google Ads account: go to Account settings in the Admin menu, open Account status and select Cancel my account.

Google says all ads stop within 24 hours, you still pay any costs already accrued, and unused prepaid funds are refunded automatically to the original payment method, typically in 4 to 12 weeks. You can still sign in to see your data, and you can reactivate later.

Or keep running and spend less.

You set an average weekly budget, and Google says you never spend more than the monthly max, which is that weekly budget times the average number of weeks in a month. Once you reach it, the ad stops for the rest of the month unless you raise the budget.

If the problem is the wrong leads, Google suggests narrowing service areas, categories and job types in campaign settings, and it reassesses charged leads for 30 days and credits low-quality, duplicate or invalid ones automatically. You can track each lead’s status as Charged, Not charged, In review or Credited.

Paused ads stop the calls, not only the bill.

While the ad is paused, customers searching for your service stop seeing it, so the calls and messages it brought stop too; Google says only a free version of your listing may still show.

Cancelling the Google Ads account stops every campaign on it, not just Local Services Ads, so check what else runs there first. Reviews and your Google Business Profile are separate and stay in place.
