How do I cancel Toast,
and what is the fee?

Toast renews for a year at a time, and closing the whole account takes written notice under its Merchant Agreement. Huck finds your Toast bills in Gmail, works out your term end and notice date, and drafts the notice when you say yes.

The short answer

To cancel Toast, send written notice of your intent not to renew at least 30 days before your current term ends; Toast’s Merchant Agreement says notices go by registered mail, return receipt requested, to Toast, Inc., 333 Summer Street, Boston, MA 02210, Attn: General Counsel. Closing the whole account is not self-service, so also tell Customer Care. If you leave before the term ends, section 8.4 of the agreement (last updated September 10, 2025) charges an early termination fee equal to the software subscription fees left in the term, or $150 for each remaining month on a pay-as-you-go plan, plus any software financing fee. Single products, like an add-on module, can be removed yourself under Subscriptions, and billing stops at the end of the current billing cycle.

Send written notice 30 days before the term ends.

Toast’s Merchant Agreement lets either party end an Order by giving at least 30 days’ written notice of its intent not to renew before the end of the current term (section 8.1). Section 14.2 says notices to Toast must be sent by registered mail, postage prepaid, return receipt requested.

Toast’s support article says closing the entire account, including the base software subscription for your first terminal, is not self-service, and points owners who are closing or switching point of sale systems to Customer Care at (617) 682-0225 or the chat button in Toast Web.

  1. Find the end date of your current term. Check your Order for the initial term. Renewal terms run one year each.
  2. Write a notice of non-renewal. Name the business, the location, the Toast account and the term end date.
  3. Mail it by registered mail, return receipt requested, at least 30 days before that date. Address: Toast, Inc., 333 Summer Street, Boston, MA 02210, Attn: General Counsel.
  4. Tell Customer Care you have sent it. Chat in Toast Web or call (617) 682-0225, and ask for written confirmation of the end date.
  5. Export your data and settle what you owe. Toast may delete Merchant Data 30 days after termination and keeps access to your bank account until amounts due are paid.

Remove one product without closing the account.

For a single add-on, Toast’s support article gives a self-service route: in Toast Web go to Toast account, My products, Subscriptions, select View and manage, review the billing period and cost, then select Request cancellation. Billing stops at the end of the current billing cycle and Toast emails you when the cancellation is complete. Bundled subscriptions have to be removed together, and payroll cancels through Customer Care.

If you are still billed after cancelling, Toast says it can take one to two billing cycles to process; if the charge continues, ask Customer Care for a credit.

The early termination fee is the rest of your term.

Section 8.4 says you agree to pay all hardware and software fees in each Order for the entire term. You may end the agreement early, but you then pay an early termination fee equal to the software subscription fees that would have been due for the rest of the current term, or, for a pay-as-you-go subscription, $150 multiplied by the months left, plus any processing fee for software financing.

The one exit the agreement prices differently is a fee change: under section 6.2, if Toast raises card processing rates or the monthly POS core tablet subscription fee and you send written notice before the change takes effect, the early termination fee does not apply (other than the software financing processing fee). So read every Toast price notice for its effective date.

On October 29, 2026 the FTC, California and seven states sued Toast in federal court in Northern California, alleging among other things that the 30-day notice rule and the early termination fee were not clearly disclosed. These are allegations; no court has ruled. Your signed Order and the agreement still govern your account.

Access ends with the term, and data goes 30 days later.

When the Order ends, so does your right to use the Toast services it covers. If you ask within 30 days of termination, Toast will let you into the account only to retrieve a copy of your merchant and customer data; after 30 days it may delete that data for good.

Plan the switch: online ordering, gift cards, loyalty, payroll and any Toast Capital balance all sit on the same account, and hardware you bought stays yours but needs an active software subscription to run on Toast.

Huck finds the notice date and drafts the letter on your yes.

Huck finds Toast invoices and price notices in your Gmail, works out when your term ends and texts you before the 30-day notice date, so the account doesn’t roll into another year. It also flags any Toast fee change with its effective date, since that date decides whether you can leave without the early termination fee.

With your yes, Huck drafts the non-renewal letter for you to mail by registered mail, emails Customer Care from your inbox to say it is on the way, and checks later statements for a renewal or fee charge. Toast decides any credit; Huck does not promise one.
