How do I cancel Lightspeed POS,
and what is the fee?

Lightspeed renews for a term at a time, and cancelling in Retail or Restaurant starts a request that Lightspeed finishes with you. Huck finds your Lightspeed bills in Gmail, works out your renewal and notice dates, and drafts the notice on your yes.

The short answer

To cancel Lightspeed POS, send written notice before the term ends: the Lightspeed Service Agreement (last updated February 26, 2026) asks for at least 90 days before the end of a term longer than 90 days, and Lightspeed’s Retail and Restaurant support pages say at least 30 days before your next billing date. For Retail POS (X-Series), go to Setup, Billing, Cancel my account; for Lightspeed Restaurant, go to Account and billing, Subscriptions, Cancel site subscription. Both open a form and Lightspeed’s team finishes the request. Leave before the term ends and section 13.5 charges the unpaid fees, the recurring fees for the rest of the term and any discount you received on software or hardware. Payments are non-refundable.

Send written notice, then submit the cancel form.

Section 4.2 of the Service Agreement says it renews for a duration equal to the initial term until either side ends it by written notice. For a current term longer than 90 days the notice is at least 90 days before the term ends; for a shorter term it equals the term, and with no Order Form it is at least 30 days. Lightspeed’s own support pages for Retail and Restaurant instead say at least 30 days before your next billing date, so work from the longer notice that applies to your Order Form.

Cancel in the product too. Neither support page treats uninstalling the app as cancelling.

  1. Find your term end date. Your Order Form shows the initial term and renewal period.
  2. Export what you need. Retail: sales history, products, customers, register closures, sales and tax reports. Restaurant: save the reports you need from Back Office before you submit the form.
  3. Write notice under section 4.2 and send it. Address: Lightspeed Commerce Inc., 700 Rue Saint-Antoine E Street, Montréal, QC, H2Y 1A6, Canada, with the mandatory copy to the legal email address listed in section 20.2.
  4. Retail: cancel third-party apps billed through your Retail account first. They keep billing if you cancel the Retail account before them.
  5. Retail POS (X-Series): go to Setup, then Billing, then Cancel my account. Review the terms, pick a reason, enter your contact details. Retail Support reaches out to finalize.
  6. Lightspeed Restaurant: Back Office, Account and billing, Subscriptions, Cancel site subscription. Only the site owner can do this. Submit the short form; billing continues until Lightspeed processes it. Each site is cancelled separately.
To Lightspeed Commerce Inc. This is written notice under section 4.2 of the Lightspeed Service Agreement that [business name], account [account or site name], is ending its subscription at the end of the current term on [date]. Please confirm in writing the end date and that no renewal term or further subscription fees will be billed after it.

Restaurant after cancellingThe site moves to the $0 Lite plan, limited to 10 sales per day (Restaurant support).
PausingRetail: the on-ice service keeps your data for a monthly fee. Restaurant: Pause plan, by the same form.

The early termination fee is the rest of your recurring fees, plus lost discounts.

Section 13.5 applies when you end the agreement before the current term is complete for any reason other than Lightspeed’s breach. It sums three things: non-recurring fees not yet paid, recurring fees that would have come due over the rest of the term, and the gap between list price and the discounted price you got on software or hardware during the term. It is immediately due in full, collected through your payment method on file.

Lightspeed’s support pages say cancelling before the end of the term may involve early termination fees or specific exit procedures. Your Order Form and a written answer from Lightspeed give the number for your account; this guide cannot.

Retail data is deleted for good, and Restaurant drops to a free plan.

Lightspeed’s Retail support page says that once you cancel, all of your data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. Export sales history, products, customers, register closures and sales and tax reports first. Third-party apps billed through Retail keep billing until you cancel them.

On Lightspeed Restaurant, cancelling moves the site to the $0 Lite plan, limited to 10 sales per day, so anything above that plan stops at that point. Discounted hardware carries the 24-month condition in the agreement.

Huck finds the term end and drafts the notice on your yes.

Huck finds Lightspeed invoices in your Gmail, works out when your term renews and texts you before the notice date, so the account doesn’t roll into another term. It also flags a discount or hardware deal that could add to an early termination fee.

With your yes, Huck drafts the written notice for you to send, and later checks your statements for a renewal charge. You sign in to submit the cancel form, and anything sent by post is yours to send. Lightspeed decides what you owe; Huck does not promise a waived fee or a refund.
