How do I cancel
Expensify?
Expensify has two separate steps: cancel the Annual subscription, then delete the workspace to stop all charges. Closing your personal account is a third thing, and the owner of an Annual workspace cannot do it yet. Huck finds your Expensify invoices in Gmail and texts you what you pay.
Connect Gmail to get started. You approve each money action.
To cancel Expensify, the workspace owner opens Account, then Subscription, then Cancel subscription and submits the request. Expensify’s help site says most Annual subscriptions cannot be cancelled before the end of the 12-month commitment, that the request is reviewed and not guaranteed, and that approval is automatic only if you have been billed once and owe nothing. Cancelling moves the workspace to Pay-per-use and does not stop charges. To stop all charges, delete the workspace; you are still billed for activity already incurred that calendar month. Closing your personal account is a separate step.

Request the Annual cancellation, then delete the workspace to stop billing.
Expensify’s help site says Cancel subscription appears under Account, then Subscription, after your free trial ends and once a card has been added or you have been billed once. It submits a request that Expensify reviews. Only requests that meet its criteria are approved.
- Check you own the workspace. Only the owner can request the cancellation, and only on an Annual subscription.
- Open Account, then Subscription. On mobile, select your profile icon first.
- Select Cancel subscription. Choose the main reason and add the details requested.
- Acknowledge and submit. Expensify says submitting requests the cancellation and that approval is not guaranteed.
- Read the result. Subscription canceled means it is done. Request submitted means Expensify’s team will reply in Concierge.
- Delete the workspace if you want charges to stop. Cancelling only moves you to Pay-per-use, which bills active members monthly.

|---|---|
| Who can cancel | Only the workspace owner, and only on an Annual subscription. |
| Annual plan | A 12-month commitment. Most Annual subscriptions cannot be cancelled before it ends. |
| Approval | Automatic only if you have been billed once for the Annual subscription and have no outstanding balance. Otherwise reviewed by hand. |

| Pay-per-use plan | Billed month to month. No subscription to cancel; delete the workspace to stop billing. |
| After cancelling | The workspace continues on Pay-per-use, and charges continue while it exists. |
| Closing your personal account | Deletes the account and unsubmitted expenses. You cannot while you own a workspace, and an Annual owner must wait until the term ends. |
Expensify’s pages describe no refund for a cancelled Annual term.
The help articles do not offer a refund route. They say that if a cancellation request is not approved you continue to be billed for the rest of the Annual term, and that transferring ownership does not change the remaining commitment. After you delete a workspace you are still billed for activity already incurred that calendar month.
Expensify Help: Cancel an Annual Subscription ↗Deleting the workspace removes it; closing the account deletes unsubmitted expenses.

Closing your personal account permanently deletes it along with any unsubmitted expenses. Expensify’s help site says you cannot close it if you own a workspace, if the account is managed by a domain, or if you owe a balance.
